About Us/Whakamārama

Teddy Bear

At Early Years, we embrace the rich tapestry of our local community, which is composed of diverse cultural backgrounds, generations, and walks of life. We cherish the unique perspectives and experiences that each family brings to our centre, and we are deeply passionate about fostering a sense of belonging and inclusivity for all.

Our educational approach is rooted in the theories of Constructivism and Progressive Education, which prioritise active learning and personalised experiences. At Early Years, we honor the individual interests and strengths of each child, tailoring our curriculum to ignite their curiousity and inspire lifelong learning.

Our mixed-age environment provides open spaces that encourage exploration, collaboration, and choice. By offering a range of experiences, we empower children to discover their passions and develop essential skills that extend beyond the classroom.

Drawing upon diverse educational methodologies such as Intergenerational Centres, Nature and Forest Kindergartens, Reggio Emilia, and Resources for Infant Educarers (RIE), we have crafted a unique educational model that nurtures holistic development and fosters a love for learning.

Beyond academics, we are committed to cultivating a community culture that values families and their contributions. Through meaningful partnerships and engagement opportunities, we strive to make a positive impact within our community and environment, ensuring that Early Years remains a beacon of support and inspiration for generations to come.

Lawrence and Michial are the proud owners and operators of Early Years, nestled in the heart of Whangaparaoa.

As third-generation locals of this beautiful coastal community, the allure of the Hibiscus Coast and its community have always been close to their hearts. They're deeply rooted in this area, with Michial's family having close ties to the coast for generations. They are thrilled to have the opportunity to serve and care for local families alongside their dedicated team of staff.

With over two decades of experience in the childcare profession, they bring a wealth of knowledge and passion to Early Years. Michial's journey began in 2003 when she earned her qualification as an Early Childhood Teacher and assumed leadership roles in various centres across Auckland and Christchurch. In 2009, they established their first childcare business in Christchurch. Since then, they have been involved in several childcare projects, each shaping their commitment to providing exceptional care and education to young minds.

As the owners of Early Years they are deeply committed to fostering a nurturing environment where tamariki can thrive and grow. Their dedication to quality care and education is at the core of everything they do, and they are excited to welcome your family into the Early Years community.
